A Season of Silence

Well, hello, friends. It has been a while, and I have missed this space more than you know. I have always struggled with being consistent in my writing and sharing. There are a few reasons for this, distractions among them, but at the root of it all, I had been more focused on my own wants and desires than on being obedient. Another reason that I struggle with showing up and sharing in this space is "Noise."

We are inundated with so much noise in our daily lives…we open up an app on our phone, and we are surrounded by music, voiceovers, and opinions. It is a lot. So I found myself believing that I don't want to add to that.

Not only did I not want to add to it, but I had also allowed myself to be consumed by it.

"The definition of noise is a sound, especially one that is loud or unpleasant or that causes disturbance."

We live in a world where we are constantly surrounded by noise…on our TV, in our cars, on our phones, while running errands, and even at our jobs. We are constantly surrounded by voices and opinions from politics to paid influencers. It is overwhelming — and a constant disturbance to our peace. Studies have concluded that continuous exposure to noise can influence our emotional well-being. It can elevate stress and anxiety, reduce focus, and cause mental exhaustion, overstimulation, withdrawal, and fatigue.

But the impact doesn't stop there — it reaches us spiritually as well. Being surrounded by noise can serve as a distraction and create an inability to hear God's voice and discern it. It can lead us to worry, stress, and fear.

The noise won for a season. and this space went silent as a result. And honestly, I did not want to add to the very noise that had overtaken me.

Lately, I have felt the tug at my heart to put aside the distractions, shut out the noise, and speak and share in a way that not only encourages others but encourages myself as well…

"A time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak." – Ecclesiastes 3:7

"A quiet place for the soul" — those are the words that greet you on this blog. My desire is for this to be a space free from noise and distraction, where your soul can rest, be fed, and be encouraged through moments of grace, growth, and God's faithfulness — simple words, sown with the prayer that they speak life into yours...and refuge from the noise.

As this season of silence ends, I am ready to share and find my voice again.

Father, in this world we are surrounded by noise and distractions at every turn. Help us to quiet our hearts and minds before You. Let us replace the noise with Your voice, and may we be drawn back to that quiet place — the place where You speak, and we are still enough to listen. Amen.
