From Battle To Building

As Christians, we are not shielded from spiritual warfare. Attacks can come physically, spiritually, and emotionally—nothing is off-limits when we’re up against the enemy. Warfare shows up in all kinds of ways: through depression, anxiety, and discouragement… or in family struggles, burnout, weariness, and even isolation.
These battles can last for days, weeks, months—or even years.
Many of the battles that Charles and I have walked through have been long and drawn out. I’ve often said, “I can handle a short-term battle—it’s the long ones that wear me down.” Those are the ones that leave you feeling stretched, weary, and desperate for relief.
But one thing I’ve learned in my 27 years of walking with the Lord is this: seasons of warfare don’t last forever.
There is a time for battle—and there is a time for rest.
We see this clearly in 1 Chronicles 22.
David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Lord, but that wasn’t part of God’s plan for him:
“You have shed much blood and fought many battles. You are not to build a house for my Name…” —1 Chronicles 22:8
David’s hands were marked by warfare. He had spent his life fighting and conquering enemies. When you’re in battle, you’re often in survival mode—just trying to make it through.

David was called to battle. Solomon was called to build.

“He shall be a man of rest... I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days.” —1 Chronicles 22:9

Solomon’s season was different—it was marked by stillness, clarity, and rest. There are some things God can only build in us in a season of peace...

- Healing and restoration
- Clearer vision and renewed calling
- A deeper relationship with God
- Refining our character
- Obedience

God gave Solomon a peaceful reign so that the temple could be built without distraction. And the same is true in our lives. God grants us space to grow, rebuild, and rest in Him.

You may be in a season of warfare now, but God promises a season of rest. And when it comes and it will, remember... it’s not just for comfort—it’s for construction. God is building your temple—your heart, your purpose, your life—as a dwelling place for His Spirit.

So hold on...

Stay faithful...

Rest is coming—and when it does, trust that God is building something beautiful within you.
